mab – MUSEUM AM BACH

The mab is a contemporary art museum acting as an art-based research on social systems, models and utopias. Founded 2014, through its collection of social models it introduces a new type of museum. The venue is an old mill in a small town in Southern Carinthia named Ruden. Up until 2003, the mill, also known as Egger-Mühle, used to be a bakery. The building’s exciting architectural mix of low and high ceilings, as well as antique and modern spaces, creates an appealing atmosphere.

Stepping into the mab Café one single round table stands out. More than 50 people fit around the table, 15 of them sitting in a circle at its front. That’s the place, where since 2019 regularly round tables let the audience participate in the cultural and political activities of the museum and the town.

Das Museum wurde 2014 gegründet. Gesammelt werden kunst-basierte Recherchen zu sozialen Modellen und Utopien der Moderne. Forschungs- und Sammlungsschwerpunkt ist die politische Partizipation von unten nach oben.

Das mab – Museum am Bach ist ein neuer Typus Museum und innovativ auch im Bereich der Vermittlung: zum Beispiel mit den regelmäßig stattfindenden Runden Tischen im Café des Hauses, die ein Gesellschaftsmodell in Anwendung sind. Mit den United Communities visioniert der Museumsgründer und -leiter Alex Samyi eine globale Union der Museen und Kulturhäuser als neue politische Zentren.

Ob im Museum, Gasthaus oder Turnsaal, Bürger_innen-Versammlungen (citizen’s assemblies) machen laut Samyi nur dann wirklich Sinn, wenn sie wie in Ruden auch offiziell an die politischen Einrichtungen einer Gemeinde/community angebunden sind.
